What Is a Temporary Email — and When Should You Use One?
The short answer
A temporary email (also called disposable email or temp mail) is a real, working email inbox that you create in seconds, use for a short time, and then throw away. It can receive genuine emails — including verification links and one-time passwords (OTPs) — but it is not connected to your identity, and it deletes itself after a short period. On Tecnet Pakistan, a free inbox takes one click and expires after 60 minutes.
How it works
When you press "Generate Inbox", the service creates a fresh address on one of its domains and starts listening for mail sent to that address. Any email that arrives is shown in your browser within seconds. When the inbox expires, the address and all of its emails are deleted automatically. There is no password to remember for a temporary inbox and no signup form to fill — the address exists only to do one small job.
Everyday situations where temp mail is perfect
- Trying a new app or website that insists on an email before it shows you anything.
- One-time downloads and discount codes that are delivered by email.
- Online selling: creating supplier, marketplace or tool accounts you need for work but do not want attached to your personal inbox.
- Testing and development: developers and QA testers create many test accounts and need inboxes that receive real verification emails.
- Commenting, forums and Wi-Fi portals that require an address for a single visit.
In each case the pattern is the same: the address is needed once, briefly — and afterwards it would only collect spam. A disposable inbox takes the spam with it when it disappears.
When you must NOT use a temporary email
Temporary email has one hard rule: never use it for anything important. That means no banking or mobile wallet accounts, no government services, no medical accounts, no tax accounts, and no main social media or business account you could not afford to lose. Because the inbox expires and its emails are deleted, password recovery becomes impossible — if you forget the password of an important account registered to a dead temp inbox, that account is usually gone for good. Anyone who knows the inbox address may also be able to read its mail while it is active, so sensitive information should never be sent to one.
Temporary vs your normal email provider
Your normal provider (Gmail, Outlook and so on) is your permanent digital identity: it holds your contacts, your history and the keys to your important accounts. A temporary inbox is the opposite — a paper plate instead of your good dinnerware. Use the paper plate for the street-food snack; keep the good plates for the meals that matter. If you find yourself needing an address that lasts, Tecnet Pakistan also offers permanent inboxes for registered users, and our guide Temporary vs Permanent Inbox explains how to choose.
Getting started
Go to the homepage, press Generate Inbox, and copy your new address wherever it is asked for. Keep the tab open, and your verification email will appear in seconds — the OTP code is highlighted so you can copy it with one tap. That is all there is to it.
